Cooking shows just got real! Virtual reality gets a yummy upgrade with lickable tech

Scientists from the City University of Hong Kong have developed a lickable VR device that lets people taste what they see on screen.

Ever dreamed of tasting the delicious dishes you see on cooking shows? Scientists in Hong Kong is turning that dream into reality.

Researchers at City University of Hong Kong have created a lickable VR device that lets anyone experience taste in a virtual world, making food shows and even virtual dining experiences more immersive that ever, reported the Daily Mail.

The device, described as “lollipop-shaped taste interfaces” can produce up to nine flavors, including sugar, salt, citric acid, cherry, passion fruit, green tea, milk, durian, and grapefruit.

Here’s how it works: the device uses food-grade flavor chemicals stored in gel pouches made from agarose gel, a material derived from red algae. When electricity is applied, these chemicals are released, mixing with your saliva to create the taste sensation.
