CNN calls San Fernando City, Pampanga the best Christmas destination in Asia

San Fernando City has been named one of the 15 best places to visit for Christmas, according to CNN.

San Fernando City, known for its giant parols, has officially earned its title as the Christmas Capital of the Philippines. And now, the world is taking notice.

International news channel CNN has named it one of the 15 best places to go for Christmas, making it the only Asian city to make the list.

CNN describes San Fernando as the place to experience Christmas at its best in Asia, with the festive spirit shining through every corner. “If Asia were to have a Christmas capital, San Fernando in the heavily Roman Catholic Philippines would be a top nomination,” it said.

“The highlight of a visit here is the parol, a colorful, electric Christmas lantern that symbolizes the Star of Bethlehem. The parols recall psychedelic kaleidoscopes, brilliant stained glass windows, prismatic pinwheels or oversized snowflakes,” it added.

Of course, the city’s Giant Lantern Festival, which runs from December 14 to January 1, was cited as another reason to visit, offering a breathtaking display of holiday lights and community spirit.

Joining the holiday hot spots are Lapland, Finland; Bogotá, Colombia; Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; Bath, England; Barcelona, Spain; Nairobi, Kenya; Nuremberg, Germany; Malta; Quebec City, Canada; San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; Salzburg and Oberndorf, Austria; Strasbourg, France; Queenstown, New Zealand; and New York City.
