Legendary high school basketball coach Ken Carter once said that winning a basketball game should be a celebration in itself, and there’s no need for humiliation or taunts. It seems that University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroon team captain CJ Cansino took this lesson to heart.
After a killer performance in the debut game at the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball tournament, including scoring five triples, CJ found himself apologizing for his post-game actions, realizing he might have gone a bit overboard with the celebration.
In a press conference following UP’s win over the Adamson Falcons, CJ admitted that he was “a bit ashamed” of his behavior and bravely offered his apology to the fans and his team’s rival.
“After the game, I was a bit ashamed because I know that I’m not that kind of player,” he said. “I’m sorry to the fans and coaches for what I did. I’m not that kind of person. I’ll be better in the next game.”

What led to this unexpected apology? CJ explained he was on cloud nine for making an epic comeback from an ACL injury. Plus, it was his first game of the season in college basketball.
“I was just happy because it’s my first game that’s why I couldn’t control my emotions,” he said. “I was like a kid who was allowed to go out of the house without napping.”
