Pinay tennis star Alex Eala has cracked the WTA Top 70, and she’s showing no signs of letting up.
Fresh off a fierce run at the Mutua Madrid Open, Eala climbed to a career-high World No. 70, according to the latest WTA rankings.
According to a report by ABS-CBN, the 19-year-old achieved this milestone following a strong performance at the Mutua Madrid Open, where she defeated Bulgaria’s Victoriya Tomova in the opening round before falling to world No. 1 Iga Swiatek in a hard-fought three-set match.
Eala’s Cinderella story began after her semifinal finish in the Miami Open, where she stunned Swiatek in a surprise victory. That win propelled her to the Top 100, and she has since continued her upward momentum, moving from No. 75 to No. 72 and now to No. 70.
Her next stop is the Italian Open from May 6 to 18, where she could go head-to-head again with familiar rivals like Jessica Pegula and Madison Keys—both of whom she battled in the Miami Open where Pegula ended Eala’s run in a three-set clash.
Then, just two days after her 20th birthday, she’s set to take on Roland Garros, which kicks off on May 25.
