Pinoy fans of “The Lord of the Rings” franchise have another item to add to their bucket list.
The stage play “Lord of the Rings – A Musical Tale” is set to open at Auckland, New Zealand’s Civic Theatre in November, but as early as now, tickets are already waitlisted.
This LOTR musical tells the story from the Hobbits’ perspective. Similar to the film version, the tale begins from Bilbo Baggins’ eleventy-first birthday in the Shire, where he gifts his nephew Frodo with the One Ring. This sets off Frodo’s epic quest across Middle-earth to protect the ring from the evil Sauron and destroy it once and for all.
The New Zealand premiere coincides with the 70th anniversary of the publication of “The Fellowship of the Ring,” the first book in “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, which debuted in 1954.
The musical originally opened at the Watermill Theatre in the UK to critical acclaim. It will also open this month at the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre in the US.
