Put your diets on pause, foodies, because the Philippines’ hog farmers are about to serve up a week-long epic feast for pork lovers with over 400 lip-smacking dishes in its bid to revitalize the industry and snag a Guinness World Record title.
In a recent press conference, the National Federation of Hog Farmers, Inc. (NatFed) announced their attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the most number of pork dishes on display and served. The ambitious plan will unfold during the five-day National Hog Festival happening from March 1 to 5 in Quezon City and Marikina.
“With the hog festival, we also hope to boost our country’s tourism by highlighting our rich culinary tradition of serving pork dishes,” said NatFed Vice Chairman Alfred Ng.
Aside from satisfying cravings, the festival is all about reviving an industry hit hard by the African swine fever.
“Marami ang nasiraan ng loob ang industriya so we want everybody to live again, mag re-populate tayo ulit, kumain ng Filipino pork, at buhayin natin ang allied industry,” said NatFed convenor Durian Tan.
From classic favorites like menudo, crispy pata, and lechon to signature dishes from Ilocos, Bicol, Pampanga, Marikina, and beyond, this feast promises to be a pork lover’s dream come true. With a whopping 418 dishes lined up, it’s time to loosen those belts and get ready for a celebration like no other!
