‘Basagin natin’: Mayor Vico Sotto wants Pinoys to challenge the culture of corruption

For Mayor Vico Sotto, believing officials should inevitably get rich is like endorsing corruption as acceptable.

Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto is not just calling out corrupt officials but also urging Filipinos to reflect on how silence allows corruption to thrive.

In an interview with ABS-CBN, Mayor Vico said that while only crooked politicians directly profit from illegal deals, the public also carries some blame for letting things slide.

“It’s become accepted. Naging katanggap-tanggap siya sa atin lahat. And I think all of us are guilty here.If we want to fix this, kailangan aminin natin na at some level, all of us are guilty here,” he said.

The Pasig mayor stressed that the mindset of excusing politicians for getting rich while in office needs to end.

“We have to challenge that thinking, challenge that system, challenge that culture. Basagin natin yun. And the first, again, isa sa unang kailangan gawin, pag-usapan natin,” he said. “Kailangan maging nakakadiri yung corruption. Kailangan hindi siya maging katanggap-tanggap.”
