This barangay chair from Tinambac, Camarines Sur has a thing or two to teach government officials about what true public service looks like.
Re-elected barangay captain Ruben Bondad broke the mold by gifting 1.5 hectares of his own land to his constituents. This unexpected move not only warmed hearts but also elicited applause from all corners, both offline and online.
Kap Ruben kickstarted his generosity by handing out one hectare of land to 70 families, each receiving a 100-square-meter lot plus a designated two-meter right of way.
He particularly donated this piece of property because it was strategically close to Camagong Elementary School, ensuring easy access to education and a handy evacuation center for the whole community.
Kap Ruben’s kindness didn’t stop there. He also tossed in an extra half hectare to make room for 35 more families to call it home.
“Nakita ko kasi ang matagal nang problema ng mga nakikitara lamang sa lupa ng iba, naranasan ko rin kasi ang walang sariling lupa. Sa tagal ko sa serbisyo ito ay masasabi kong legasiya sa mga nangangailangan,” he said in an interview with Brigada News FM.
“Ang lupa ay nakapangalan sa akin, ngayon donated ko na sa kanila,” he added, ensuring that all necessary paperwork and titles for the new landowners will be meticulously processed.
