For generations, the Children’s Playground at Luneta Park in Manila was a cherished haven for kids and the young at heart. Dinos, slides, and tree houses—it held memories for all.
This is why many were heartbroken when the historic playground faced the wrecking ball in January 2022.
But good news! The playground has been resurrected and it just got a massive glow-up with “green” features as a bonus.
According to the National Parks Development Committee (NPDC), the Children’s Play Garden is a masterpiece of recycled materials. The swings, slides, seesaws, and more, are all crafted from a ton of recycled plastic waste and metal, said NPDC Executive Director Cecille Lorenzana-Romero.
The place is also now surrounded by 30 species of native trees, each with its own QR code for an educational twist.
“Ang nais namin dito ay ‘yung mga bata makapaglaro. Hindi lang makapaglaro sa isang natural na kapaligiran kundi matuto rin sila tungkol sa ating mga puno at halaman,” said Children’s Playground project head Aina Zulueta Valencia in an interview with GMA News.
“Since the pandemic, and the closure of the Children’s Playground in the Eastern Section of Rizal Park, many parkgoers and the public have been clamoring for a children’s play facility inside our park. This call was answered,” added Lorenzana-Romero.
The Luneta Children’s Play Garden was formally opened at the Burnham Green on November 17. And it welcomes all for free from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily.
