The Ayala Museum has partnered with the Louvre Abu Dhabi to showcase Filipino cultural heritage globally.
In an interview with The Global Filipino Magazine, Aprille Tijam of the Ayala Museum discussed the collaboration’s importance, the selection process for the exhibited pieces, and the broader impact of Filipino visual art.
According to Tijam, the collaboration began in 2022 when the Ayala Museum was invited to contribute pieces with shared characteristics to the Louvre Abu Dhabi’s Permanent Galleries. They loaned a funerary mask from Butuan, Agusan del Norte, and a gold cup from Nabua, Camarines Sur.
“The stories that we hold as Filipinos and as a nation are always worth telling,” Tijam said, as she underscored that international exhibitions allow Filipino artworks to engage in a global conversation, showcasing the unique cultural heritage and identity of the Philippines.
She hopes that visitors to the Louvre Abu Dhabi will gain a deeper understanding of Filipino culture and artistic expression, appreciating the intricate craftsmanship and historical significance of the exhibited pieces. The exhibit will continue until 2025.
