The humble tortang talong, a go-to in Filipino kitchens, made it to Taste Atlas’ “100 Best Rated Dishes with Eggplant.”
This Pinoy classic, a mouthwatering combo of smoky eggplant and lightly beaten eggs, occupied the 9th spot in the list with a 4.4 rating.
Taste Atlas described tortang talong as a versatile delicacy that can hold its own with just roasted eggplant and eggs or level up with ground meat and veggies. And of course, it’s best paired with steamed rice and a side of tomato or banana ketchup.

To whip up this super simple dish, whole eggplants are dipped into the egg mixture, then pan-fried until crispy, resembling a savory omelet.
“Inexpensive and quickly prepared, tortang talong can be enjoyed at any time of day as a hearty breakfast, lunch, or dinner,” said Taste Atlas.
Leading the list is Turkey’s hünkar beğendi, a flavorful lamb stew served over a creamy roasted eggplant purée. Rounding out the Top 10 is Lebanon’s baba ganoush.
In August 2022, tortang talong was also named the best egg dish in the world with a 4.7 rating.
