The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) awards night just had a major moment after “I’mPerfect” lead star Krystel Go took home Best Actress, holding her own against a lineup of veteran and buzzed-about nominees.
Krystel edged out Nadine Lustre, Angelica Panganiban, and rising actress Bianca de Vera, earning praise for the rawness and authenticity of her performance.
“Maraming salamat po sa award na ito. Hindi po ako makapaniwala na nanalo po ako. Mommy and Daddy, para po sa inyo ito. Maraming salamat po sa pagkakataong ito para mabigyan kami ng boses at maipakita namin na kaya rin naming umarte,” Krystel said in her acceptance speech.
Early reviews of “I’mPerfect have highlighted how Krystel balanced the film’s lighter moments with its heavier themes, offering a clear-eyed portrayal of the everyday struggles and stigma faced by persons with Down syndrome.
In her speech, she also made sure to thank the people who trusted the cast with their stories, giving a shoutout to producers Sylvia Sanchez and Ria Atayde, and her co-stars.
“Pinagkatiwalaan niyo po kaming mga persons with Down syndrome na kaya rin po naming umarte. Ang babait niyo pong lahat. Mahal na mahal po namin kayong lahat,” she added.
