Alyssa Valdez reflects on inspiring volleyball journey and unveils new memorabilia collection—‘Lakas loob at tiwala sa sarili ang tanging dala ko’

"The Phenom" Alyssa Valdez looks back on her journey from a young upstart from Batangas to becoming the megastar of Philippine women’s volleyball.

Volleyball superstar Alyssa Valdez has been unofficially crowned the “Queen of Philippine Volleyball” for over a decade, thanks to her immense popularity and numerous championships from her amateur days to her professional career.

But despite her soaring popularity, Alyssa admitted her achievements were unexpected. The Batangueña came to Metro Manila to try her luck in the sport with nothing but self-belief and a dream.

“Hindi ko inakalang aabot dito ang mga natutunan ko. Lakas ng loob at tiwala sa sarili ang tanging dala ko,” recalled Alyssa. “With disciplined effort and unwavering commitment, heartstrong dreams can be realized,” she added.

Alyssa also said that her climb to the top wasn’t all roses. But the 30-year-old netter said she refused to bow down to any challenges that came her way. “… In life, we may encounter failures, but with determination and grit, we can rise again,” said Alyssa.

This look back into her illustrious career came ahead of the launch of her limited-edition sports cards collection, dubbed “Alyssa Valdez: The Collegiate Legacy Collection.”

Set for release on June 14, the collection features personalized signed memorabilia from Alyssa’s early years with the Ateneo Lady Eagles in the UAAP.

After clinching three UAAP titles, Alyssa became a key player for the Philippine national team and has led the Creamline Cool Smashers to several league titles.
