Alex Eala is making history again, this time as the first Filipina to qualify for the singles main draw at Wimbledon.
With a WTA ranking of No. 77, she earned an automatic slot based on the tournament’s cutoff for the top 108 players, meaning she skips the qualifiers and goes straight to the main stage, reported Asian Journal News.
Before securing her Wimbledon debut, the 20-year-old scored back-to-back wins at the WTA 250 Nottingham Open, first defeating world No. 87 Varvara Gracheva in a tough three-set match, then taking down Anca Todoni of Romania in straight sets.
The tournament is part of the grass-court season that builds up to Wimbledon.

Earlier this year, Eala became the first Filipina in the Open Era to reach the singles main draw of the French Open. Her Wimbledon appearance adds to a breakout 2024, which also saw her hit a career-high WTA ranking of No. 69 in May.
