Veteran actress Agot Isidro just lived through every theater actor’s worst nightmare: the mind going completely blank mid-performance.
In an Instagram post, the 58-year-old brought fans and netizens into her most vulnerable moment during the final run of her play “Dagitab,” sharing a brave and honest recount of forgetting her lines on stage.
“Actors are human beings. And like all humans, may hangganan ang kaya ng katawan,” she wrote.
Isidro, who plays the lead role, Issey, recalled that she had to walk offstage after her brain suddenly shut down and froze mid-line, unable to remember a single word.
“I couldn’t understand what just happened. The previous run wasn’t all good too. I struggled through the last scenes. The very thing that every actor dreads was happening to me,” she said.
She said fatigue may have played a role, noting she had been working nonstop for over two months while also dealing with the stress of moving to a new home. And while she didn’t want to make excuses, she owned the fact that she pushed herself too hard.
“I just overestimated my capacity as a workaholic, as nearing senior citizen, and as someone who takes the job too seriously. Nilalaban ng katawan ko, pero nag-decide na yung utak ko na tigil na,” she admitted.
Despite the moment, Isidro was quick to express her gratitude to the cast and production team of “Dagitab” and sincerely apologized to the audience for not being able to finish the show. But she promised to bounce back and give them the show that they deserve. “Chill lang. Babalik kami,” she said.
