Long-time Burger King employee Kevin Ford, who went viral after receiving a mere goodie bag for 27 years of perfect attendance with the company, recently got the surprise of a lifetime–$450,000 from a GoFundMe campaign. No,w Kevin’s cooking up something even bigger: a food truck biz with a twist of Pinoy flavor.
In a recent Instagram post, Kevin shared the exciting news as he showed his followers his new black-and-silver food truck. He’s been driving across the United States, expressing his profound thanks to everyone who chipped into his GoFundMe.
But what really got people talking, especially Filipinos, was his plan to mix in some Pinoy dishes on his menu.
“Got a lot of plans. I wanted to get some of your inputs on what kind of food. I’m thinking of serving traditional American food hamburger, hotdogs, some special recipes from my mom, my sisters, and family, potato salad, tuna salad, things like that,” said Kevin.
“But also, when my fiancé, Gemma, gets here, she is from the Philippines, so I wanna do some of her food, some fusions like spaghetti with hotdogs in it, stuff like that. I wanna do like an America vs Philippines (food) truck,” he shared.
Although Kevin admits he’s no expert in the food business yet, he’s eager to learn and expand his menu as he goes along. For now, he said his focus is on opening the business soon and letting customers enjoy the food experience.
“I want people to come and I want people to enjoy what I’ll be doing,” he said.
It was back in 2022 when Kevin’s story blew up online. After nearly three decades of flawless service at Burger King, all he got from the company was a backpack, a movie ticket, a Starbucks cup, and a mix of candy and chocolate.
Disappointed by the lackluster recognition, Kevin’s daughter, Seryna, started a GoFundMe campaign to show her appreciation for her dad with the goal of raising just $200 (Php11,250). But the internet had other plans, raising a whopping $459,800 (Php25.8 million) instead!
