Rising short track speed skating star Peter Groseclose delivered another impressive performance at the Desert Classic, capturing first place in the 1500m and finishing third overall in the two-day competition. The strong showing places him another step closer to qualifying for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina.
Groseclose, a 17-year-old Filipino-American skater, was born in Los Angeles and raised in Virginia. He began skating at seven and now trains under former Olympians Simon Cho and John-Henry Krueger.
Representing the Potomac Speedskating Club, he burst onto the global scene at the 2024 Winter Youth Olympics in Gangwon, South Korea, where he finished fifth in the 500m and set one of the fastest times in the field.
In 2024, he made history by earning the Philippines’ first-ever medal at an ISU Junior World Cup, with a third place finish for 500m in Bormio, Italy.
Most sports fans may recognize the teen for serving as one of the Philippine’s flag-bearers at the 2025 Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China.
