2 more Pinoy boxers catch final bus to Paris 2024!

Filipino boxers Carlo Paalam and Hergie Bacyadan have qualified for the Summer Olympic Games to be held in Paris.

Two more Filipino athletes have punched their tickets to the 2024 Paris Olympics after dominating the 2nd World Boxing Olympic Qualification Tournament in Bangkok, Thailand.

Carlo Paalam and Hergie Bacyadan are the newest members of the Philippine boxing squad aiming for Olympic gold. Carlo clinched his spot in the Men’s 57kg semifinals with a flawless 5-0 victory over India’s Sachin Siwach.

Just a day later, Hergie earned her place in the Women’s 75kg category by also scoring a 5-0 win against Maryelis Yriza of Venezuela.

Carlo was simply grateful for catching the final bus to Paris. “Thank you so much Lord,” wrote Carlo, who was also part of the Philippine contingent in the Tokyo Olympics.

For Hergie, this achievement is sweet redemption. After battling through lackluster performances and tough training camps, she finally got her shot at the Olympics.

“Happy lang ako dahil bago ko nakuha ito ang dami kong napagdaanan din. Hindi okay performances ko. And even from training camp puro ako bokya,” Hergie told the Inquirer in an interview.

These two champs will join Nesthy Petecio, Eumir Marcial, and Aira Villegas in Paris, all vying to bring home the Philippines’ first-ever Olympic gold in boxing.
